I love underground artists. There’s something about their hunger, their grind and their thirst that permeates their music and produces raw, real and soul stirring tunes…music that’s not diluted by the commercial malarkey that saturates the joints on the radio. Hunger like this produces classic debut albums like Mariah Carey’s Vision of Love, 50 Cents’ Get Rich or Die Tryin’, Kanye West’s College Dropout and Drake’s pre-album mixtapes (the album was disappointing). So it’s always refreshing to find an artist when they’re on their mixtape grind.

Enter J-Makk. I won’t berate you with hype because I believe skill, talent and good music speak for themselves. Just know Dallas will definitely love their hometown boy and the mixtape, Return of the Makk, drops July 8th. Enjoy! And follow J-Makk on Twitter at @jmakkmusic.
