Obedience is an amazing thing! I wanted to hit the gym and eat out today…but my gut (I call Him the Holy Spirit) kept telling me to go home and make hamburgers. Begrudgingly (I really wanted sushi), I obeyed, and I immediately saw the benefits. I had $63.78 in my account until payday Friday…and I still needed to get gas! Sushi would’ve drained me. But soon after, I saw the even greater benefits of my obedience!
As I stood in the kitchen with hamburger patties sizzling in the skillet pondering my work problems, I had an idea! Actually, it wasn’t even an idea. It’s like God took every idea, thought, and inkling I’d ever had and mushed them all together! Every volunteer job, internship, and extracurricular activity I’d ever done was thrown in the mixing bowl. Every passion, desire, and dream was there in this vision. The purpose God placed in me, the money I needed (and wanted), the lifestyle I imagined…it was ALL there!
I became so overcome with joy, drive, and hustle, I could hardly finish dinner! The moment was amazing! It’s like in 5 minutes, God showed me the beginning, the middle, and the end, with all of my helpmates, financiers, and media coverage!
It scares me to know what would’ve happen if I had been disobedient and did what I wanted instead of what the Holy Spirit was leading me to do. Had I been in the gym or a sushi restaurant, I would’ve missed that quiet moment with God. I would’ve missed the opportunity to pour my cares upon Him. And I would’ve missed hearing Him solve all my problems and give me the plan to get the desires of my heart.
After some prayer, thanksgiving, and placing the vision back in His hands, I immediately came upstairs to write this blog. See I’ve been playing for Team Jesus long enough that I know if you don’t write the vision (Habakkuk 2:2), the adversary will try to snatch it away. So while I hope this blog inspires you to be obedient and trust God with your dreams, passions, and purposes, it also serves as a reminder and inspiration to me. A reminder that God will give me my deepest desires and inspiration to get off my tail and make this vision come to pass.
Thank You, God!!!
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
